Description
A static recompilation of Skate 3 for iOS, rendering through Vulkan on MoltenVK. Runs at a locked 60fps on an iPhone 13 mini (A15): median frame 16.7ms, 95th percentile 16.8-17.8ms.
YOU MUST SUPPLY THE GAME. This app contains no game content and will not start without it.
AFTER INSTALLING:
1. Connect your iPhone to a computer and open Finder > your iPhone > Files > Skate 3 (on Windows, iTunes > File Sharing).
2. Drop in a 'game' folder containing your own disc files. That is about 6GB, so allow a few minutes.
3. Add Title Update 3, the free update EA published on Xbox Live - it is not on the disc and the game will not run without it. The app can download it for you: choose "Install the title update" and then Download. If you would rather supply it yourself, copy the package into the same Skate 3 folder and it is found automatically.
The setup screens walk you through steps 2 and 3.
On-screen touch controls appear when no controller is attached; MFi and Bluetooth controllers are picked up automatically. Press Start + Select together for a performance menu that shows your frame rate and what is limiting it.
Requires iOS 16.0 or later.
Change Log
iOS skipped a release: this carries everything Android got in v0.2.0, and then some.
Controller remapping. Sixteen inputs - face buttons, bumpers, triggers, stick clicks, D-pad, Back and Start - can each be moved to any other, on the Controls page under Button Mapping. The sticks themselves are not remapped; Swap Sticks and Invert Camera Y already cover that.
Three bugs that were costing frames. Touching the Framerate Cap row silently erased the shipped 60 fps cap on every later launch, because one setting's name was a prefix of another's. A per-packet GPU profiler was running in every build - about 1.7 million clock reads a second - whether or not anyone was profiling. And the ceiling that lets a frame advance more than one simulation period had been compiled for Switch only, so the two platforms whose frames overrun it most never had it.
Eleven new settings rows aimed at buying frames back on a phone: 3D Scene Resolution, draw distance down to an eighth, NPC and World update rates, cuts for pedestrians and traffic, movable props and other skaters, vegetation, hair, water, draw batching, 40/45/50 fps caps, and an FPS Percentiles readout that shows the 1% low and p95/p99 next to the average - the average is exactly the statistic that hides a stutter.
First launch could previously come up blank, roughly one clean install in ten: parts of a screen drawn once while their shaders were still compiling were skipped and never came back. Shader compilation now stays synchronous through the cold-boot frontend.
New installs ship at Half draw distance. If you are updating, your existing video settings are kept exactly as they are.
The crowd and prop cuts are ported from darchap's Skate3-Port, which did them first.
